You should bottle all that skill and charisma, you'd make a fortune!
~ Professor T. Bird

Professor T. Bird is the main supporting character from the Battletoads series. He is often seen in the cutscenes of the games and occasionally gives the player good advice about upcoming obstacles, being also somewhat notorious for mocking the Battletoads on the continue screens.

Details

T. Bird appears as a scrawny vulture, wearing blue pants and either a labcoat or a sweater with the number 8 stamped on the front. He's a enigmatic individual who serves as the 'toads mentor, being affectionately referred by them as "Coach". He is known to have an enormous intelligence and great magical talent said to rival even the Dark Queen's own powers, though he has renounced the use of magic in favor of science.

Animated Pilot

Professor T. Bird appears in the animated series pilot as Princess Angelica's only remaining ally, and the one who concocts the plan to create a new generation of Battletoads to protect her from the Dark Queen. He's mostly a source of comic relief, although he instructs the trio in the use of their new powers and builds the Toadster for them out of an old wrecked car. He was voiced by Michael Donovan.

Trivia

  • A unused concept art from the first game shows T. Bird in a human form, implying his vulture form was originally meant as a Gamescape avatar similar to the Battletoad's toad forms.
  • In the Nintendo Power comic T. Bird briefly mentions he was formerly a lover of the Dark Queen, though this fact is never expanded upon or mentioned again.
  • T. Bird is curiously absent from the Arcade game, despite appearing in magazine screenshots of the time. His unused sprites can also be found in the game's data.
  • T. Bird is completely absent from the 2020 reboot, though his presence is implied in the game's ending as the taxi the Battletoads enter is identical to the Vulture. The developers have also confirmed that T. Bird is still present.
